NBTC ITU ASP COE TRAINING WORKSHOP
ON
INFRASTRUCTURE SHARING
31 AUGUST - 3 SEPTEMBER 2010
BANGKOK, THAILAND
Supported by
Draft Agenda
Brief Description
Infrastructure Sharing is becoming one of the key regulatory issues as it has major impact on the potential of new entrants to compete with dominant service providers. Infrastructure sharing has been a complex issue to handle as regulators often need to make decisions on mandating infrastructure sharing. Further, with the increase in deployment of fiber networks, need for roll out of mobile towers in rural remote areas and deployment of national Internet exchanges, there are new models of infrastructure sharing emerging.
To complement such efforts, service providers on their own initiatives are sharing infrastructure to lower costs. This training workshop aims to meet the following objectives:
- Develop an understanding of the scope of infrastructure sharing, its advantages and disadvantages;
- Build skills on the regulatory issues underlying infrastructure sharing and disseminate international best practices in this regard;
- Comprehend the details of how infrastructure sharing is achieved in practice; and
- Gain knowledge of industry (service providers and vendors) practices and initiatives in this regard.
